Legislator Maisano informed the members that Mr. Schwartz would give an update on the Sandford Boulevard Redevelopment Project.

He also stated that there is a border dispute between Pelham and Mt. Vernon over a proposed development on Sandford Boulevard. Legislator Maisano stated that as a representative for Pelham, he is receiving communication from the residents expressing their concerns about the traffic,(children crossing the streets as there are schools in the area) and inquires on many issues.  He stated that one of the questions that is asked by the constituents - is the County doing anything with this project?

Mr. Schwartz stated that the County Executive is attempting to work with personnel on the Sandford Boulevard Development Project.  He also stated that the County owns Sandford Boulevard and there are a number of small parcels of land along Sandford Boulevard that are owned by the County.  In addition, he stated that there are 2 small pieces of land where the Pepsi Bottling Company is – right in front of Sandford Boulevard that the County also owns.  Further on Sandford Boulevard, there is a County Sewer line.  He stated that the Department of Environmental Facilities will know of all proposals for that area.  The pump station adjacent to the back of Target and other retail stores can not be restricted as a result of the development.  He stated that these are the issues with respect to County government.

Mr. Schwartz stated that he is not aware of the City of Mt. Vernon or the developers approaching the County to provide financial help or support.    He also stated that he took a walking tour of the proposed development and informed the committee that nothing would be built over any County Sewer.

Mr. Schwartz stated that the County has been consistent in working with municipalities across the County in making request of the State.

Legislator Maisano thanked Mr. Schwartz for his presentation and stated that this will be an on-going discussion.
