DISCUSSION:

Agenda Item #76:  Proposed Local Law making child safety seats available in for-hire vehicles regulate by the County.

Chairman Ryan introduced Chairperson Barbara Monohan of the Taxi and Limousine Comm. and pointed out the changes in the proposed law making child-safety seats required in for-hire vehicles regulated by the County.  The Legislation Committee signed out this item with revisions made by the law department.  A sentence was added at the end of the paragraph at the top of page 2 and in the appropriate location in the Local Law.  Mr. McGrath explained that this sentence was added requiring that seats be installed according to manufacturer’s specifications out of concern both for safety and liability.  Liability issues will always exist, however.

Upon motion made by Legislator Kaplowitz and seconded by Legislator Wishnie, the item passed unanimously.
