MINUTES

COMMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY & CRIMINAL JUSTICE

April 8, 2002

8:55 a.m.

MEMBERS PRESENT:           B. Ryan (Chair), S. Swanson, R. Wishnie

BOARD STAFF:                     S. Vanderberg, Secretary

This special meeting was called to order at 8:55 a.m.

Mr. Ryan said this meeting was called for the purpose of considering a resolution that would urge the New York State Legislature to enact legislation that would create a state-wide graduated drivers licensing program.

Earlier this year, both the State Assembly and Senate each passed a graduated drivers licensing bill.  These two bills need to be reconciled through the conference committee process.

Mr. Ryan said the resolution before the Committee urges that all necessary steps be taken to ensure that an agreed-to bill is passed and signed into law by the end of the legislation session.

Mr. Wishnie acknowledged Mr. Ryan’s diligence and hard work on this important issue over the past several years and urged the reporting of the resolution for action by the full Board.

The resolution was reported 3-0.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:57 a.m.
