*M I N U T E S COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY & CRIMINAL JUSTICE MONDAY, MARCH 2, 1998 9:00 A.M.
PRESENT: Chair: Ryan. Members: Kaplowitz, Mosiello, Swanson, Wishnie. Staff: Emilia Vita.
The meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m., by Chairman Ryan. The minutes of February 23, 1998, were approved on the motion of Legislator Wishnie, seconded by Legislator Swanson. All agreed, none opposed, motion carried 5-0. The members reviewed the draft Committee Blueprint workplan for 1998. Members agreed to add the item "Radio Communications for the new millennium" to the Blueprint under the topics of Fire Protection and Emergency Services and Disaster and Emergency Management. This item will encompass all communication issues, radio problems, and E911 matters. Another item, the "Impact of handling State and Federal prisoners" was added to the Blueprint under the topic of Correction. Legislator Kaplowitz requested his memo regarding the 311 centralized phone number be added to the Committee agenda as a referral. All agreed, none opposed. Members requested Committee meetings with the Police Advisory Board and the Traffic and Safety Board for the purpose of discussing the functions of these two boards and their operating needs.

Mr. Ryan has invited Chief Robert Boddie of the Peekskill Fire Department, and the chiefs of the Montrose and Verplanck Fire Departments, to meet with him later this afternoon to discuss the effectiveness of the mutual aid system in the communities covered by their departments and the radio communications problems they are experiencing in northern Westchester. Public Safety Committee members are invited to sit in on this session scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. The members tentatively scheduled their site visit to 60 Control for Tuesday, March 24, at 9 a.m. Confirmation will be sent to members prior to the meeting.
With no other business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 10 :00 a.m. on the motion of Legislator Swanson, seconded by Legislator Mosiello. |
