DISCUSSION:

Chair Pinto called the meeting to order at 3:15 p.m., with all members present.  The minutes of July 9th were accepted and moved on the motion of Legislator Spreckman, seconded by Legislator Ryan, with all in favor.  Chair Pinto noted that agenda items would be held over until the next meeting due to the absence of representation from the Parks Department.

Chair Pinto then reviewed correspondence from Legislator Maisano (dated April 2001).  The letter expressed concerns from a constituent, Mr. Bob Petrucci, with regard to the approved rate change of golf fees, and his allegation of being overcharged.  Chair responded that he brought the matter to the attention of the WC/Parks Board during an April 19th meeting, and the Board confirmed that Mr. Petrucci’s claim was not valid.  It was explained that fees are set by the Parks Board (annually) and are subject to rate change.  In November 2000, it was established that Friday would be included as a weekday, instead of a weekend, and the rate would reflect accordingly.

After a brief discussion and explanation by Chair Pinto, Legislator Maisano thanked the committee for inviting him and Mr. Petrucci, and for explaining the fee process, which was acceptable on his behalf.  Mr. Maisano emphasized that he takes no position on this issue, but had hoped Mr. Petrucci would have been present, also, to understand the process.

Legislator Ryan mentioned that requests had been made for the Parks Department to attend committee meetings on July 9th and 23rd, to discuss the progress being made to develop athletic fields.  There has been no response to these requests.  Mr. Ryan emphasized that these requests have been overlooked and constituents are waiting for information and updates.  It’s imperative to have the Parks Department attend our next meeting, to be held on Monday, September 17th.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned on the motion of Legislator Ryan, seconded by Legislator Spreckman, at 3:27 p.m.
