SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON PARKS,

RECREATION & CONSERVATION

Monday, July 9, 2001

3:00 P.M.

PRESENT:  Chair:  V. Pinto.  Members:  W. Ryan;  B. Spreckman.

BOL & STAFF:  C. Ryer (Sec’y.).

ALSO PRESENT:  Marc Fenichel (CE’s ofc. Intern).

DISCUSSION:

Chair Pinto called the meeting to order at 3:15 p.m., and began the discussion addressing the golf course issues raised by Mr. Harold Romanoff.  Chair noted that these matters would be presented to Commissioner Motley and the Parks Board for their review, along with other issues such as the ice skating rink, and a follow-up meeting would be scheduled in late September or early October.

With regard to the ball park issues and Scout Field, Legislator Ryan noted that he requested an update to be presented at today’s meeting by representatives of the Parks Department, but no one from that Department was in attendance.  Chair Pinto and Legislator Ryan seemed to have had a discrepancy with the scheduled meeting date of the Parks Department, to give their update on the status of the ball fields.  It was recommended that a memo be sent to the Parks Department Commissioner and appropriate staff members, to attend the next meeting scheduled for July 23rd, and be prepared to give a full update and status report on the pending issues as previously discussed by the Special Committee on Parks.

Next, Chair Pinto read the various correspondence, with requests for additional ball playing fields.  Legislator Carsky made reference of closing the Bronx River Parkway to motorcyclists.  Legislator LaMotte presented issues with Ward Pound Ridge regarding potholes.
