COMMITTEE ON COUNTY OFFICERS AND DEPARTMENTS

MINUTES, NOVEMBER 18, 2002, 4:00 PM

Chair, Swanson called the meeting to order at 4:10 pm

 

 

SENIOR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES SENIOR COUNCIL

 

Ronnie Amato and Beryl Stewart have never been to meeting.  Mrs. Stewart-Cousins explained what this board entails.  They both took the oath.

 

Mrs. Amato was concerned there are financial problems for seniors.  Mrs. Swanson said they are looking into grants for this.  Mrs. Spreckman stated there is not enough money in budget, but they are fighting for funds for seniors from the state.  Mrs. Amato was also very concerned about nutrition centers and the conditions of nursing homes.  Mrs. LaMotte suggested to recruite nurses for nursing homes.  The problem is with one aide taking care of 10 people.

 

On motion of Mrs. Spreckman, seconded by Mr. Pinto, Mrs. Amato and Mrs. Stewart were both appointed to the Senior Programs and Services Senior Council.  Vote 6-0.

 

WOMEN’S ADVISORY BOARD

 

Rita Golden has attended meetings and took oath.  She is an at large member.  There are still vacancies on this board.  Mr. Ryan said the board members on Committee on Education worked with Ms. Golden he spoke highly of her accomplishments. 

 

On motion of Mrs. Spreckman, seconded by Mr. Young, Rita Golden is appointed to Women’s Advisory Board.  Vote 6-0

 

On motion of Ursula LaMotte, seconded by Mr. Pinto, minutes of November 4, 2002 were approved.  Vote 6-0

 

HOUSING OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION

 

Katherine Cintron took oath and has attended meetings.  She has over 14 years of sales experience.  She works for the Red Cross.  Mrs. Stewart-Cousins highly recommends her this committee.

 

On motion of Mr. Young, seconded by Mrs. Spreckman, Mrs. Cintron appointed to Housing Opportunity Commission.  Vote 6-0

 

REAPPOINTMENTS

 

Dr. Jeffrey Brensilver and Dr. Ruth Merkatz have both attended meetings.  Mrs. Swanson recommends both highly.

 

On motion of Mrs. Swanson, seconded by Mr. Pinto, both have been reappointed to Board of Health.  Vote 6-0
