The meeting was
called to order at
Mrs. Carsky presented
a Resolution for the Committee’s approval and the Board’s consideration to
present Dr. Sal Prezioso with the Board’s Distinguished Service Award. She explained that Dr. Sal worked for
Mrs. Swanson thought this award was presented to only Commissioners and Elected officials and would like to make sure this is appropriate. Mrs. LaMotte will request a list of recipients from the Clerk of the Board.
On the motion of Legislator Swanson, seconded by Legislator Pinto, the Resolution was approved by a 4-0 vote.

APPOINTMENTS:
HISPANIC ADVISORY BOARD
Elizabeth Vega: Is a resident of New Rochelle and has been appointed by the County Executive for the term January 1, 2001 through December 31,2002. She has worked in the Special Education Department in the New Rochelle School District. She is the Executive Director of the New Rochelle Hispanic Coalition and has an extensive background of experience that contributes to the needs of the Hispanic community.
She has attended several Board meetings and is involved with a project that would provide Information Centers with available resources and services in Westchester County for Bi-lingual citizens. She has developed similar goals within Mount Vernon and New Rochelle and would like to supply more translators to be more accessible to the Hispanic community. She requested grant applications from Mayor Idoni to support their efforts.
On the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Swanson, the appointment was approved by a 4-0 vote.
YOUTH BOARD
Sandy Sunderland: Is a resident of Hartsdale and has been appointed by the County Executive for a term to expire December 31, 2003,replacing Mark Santoro. She is a free-lance consultant on Native American studies. She teaches general tribes and has been involved with teacher workshops where she had the opportunity to meet young people and listen to their concerns and/or problems. She had an unforgettable experience at the Woodfield Cottage in Valhalla, where she taught the history of sacred items and background of the Native American heritage. She has attended several meetings and appreciates the opportunity to serve and share her concerns and experience with the Board.
On the motion of Legislator Spreckman, seconded by Legislator LaMotte, the appointment was approved by a 4-0 vote.

Marcus Griffith: Is a resident of Mount Vernon and has been appointed by the County Executive as the City resident representative for a term to expire on December 31, 2003. He is replacing Earl Benjamin who has since retired from the Board. He is currently employed as a Page Systems Analyst for Reader’s Digest Association.
He has attended several meetings and has an interest to learn about several diversified County projects such as Playland, the Health Care Corporation, and the parking lot at the Hospital and the Correction Facility in Valhalla.
In response to questions from the Committee members, Mr. Griffith said his hours at the office are flexible enough for him to attend early morning Board meetings and field trips and he developed a liking to the County’s history despite his financial background. He enjoys the history of the County parks, the Bronx River Parkway, housing, mass transit and parking facilities.
On the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Spreckman, the appointment was approved by a 4-0 vote.
The next COD meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 13th at 4 p.m.
