APPOINTMENTS

REFUSE DISPOSAL DISTRICT #1 ADVISORY BOARD

John Liszewski: Is a resident of Yonkers and has been appointed as the City Representative member of this Advisory Board for a term to expire on December 31, 2002.  He is currently the Commissioner of Public Works for the City of Yonkers.  His responsibility includes all phases of public works operation, including the water system, sewer system, solid waste collection, snow removal, recycling, bulk pick-up and maintenance of all public places (streets, bridges, highways).  The City of Yonkers hosts the MRF Facility and he notes that Yonkers is the biggest and best consumer for the Disposal District.  He directed the re-organization and expansion of solid waste collection schedule, instituting weekly collection of bulk items while reducing overtime by $500,000.

The Committee members had a brief discussion relating to local Carter fees vs. exceptions and the policy for recycling separation and pick up.  This will be discussed at a future date.

Legislator Stewart-Cousins said that Mr. Liszewski is the City of Yonkers best asset.  He manages the Department of Public Works well and benefits the City.  She highly recommends his appointment to this Advisory Board.

On the motion of Legislator Spreckman, seconded by Legislator Stewart-Cousins, the appointment was approved by a 7-0 vote.
