COMMITTEE ON COUNTYOFFICERS & DEPARTMENTS

MONDAY, MARCH 26, 2001

PRESENT:           Chair:  LaMotte.  Members:  Oros, Pinto, Spreckman, Stewart-Cousins, Swanson, and Young.  Staff:  Vita, Schecter.

 

ALSO PRESENT:  Bill Randolph, CountyExecutive’s office; Richard Wishnie, Legislator, District 9.

 

APPOINTMENTS

FIRE ADVISORY BOARD:

Frank Ramos:  Is a resident of Mount Vernon and has been appointed to the Fire Advisory Board for the term January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2002.  He has served the Mount Vernon Fire Department for 17 years and has been serving as President in the local union for 6 years.  He is involved with the Westchester Coalition of Professional Firefighters as well as the AFL-CIO Central Labor Body.  He attends meetings relating to labor and union matters.  He mentioned several ideas he would like to share with the Fire Advisory Board, especially the Mutual aid system.

 

Legislator Young said under direction and leadership of Mr. Ramos, the Mount Vernon Fire Department has become more visible in the community as well as in the schools, educating children and adults about fire prevention and safety.  His unprecedented involvement is the source of a positive impact in the City.

 

On the motion of Legislator Young, seconded by Legislator Pinto, the appointment was approved by a 7-0 vote.

 

 

Ronald E. DeIulio:  Is a lifelong resident of Yorktown and has been appointed to the Fire Advisory Board for the term January 1, 2001 through December 31,2003.  He has been a firefighter since 1993 and has held various positions working in a combination firehouse.

Mr. DeIulio is currently employed as an EMT/Firefighter in the Lake Mohegan Fire District.  He has received several meritorious citations, state certifications and a lifesaving award.  He would like to contribute his opinion relating to combination appointments in mixed departments as well as addressing important safety issues.  He is impressed with the new dispatching equipment.  There are five houses in his district; all within a 5-minute call time.  This district serves North Yorktown, Cortlandt, part of Oregon Corners in Putnam, Peekskill.

 

On the motion of Legislator Oros, seconded by Legislator Swanson, the appointment was approved by a 7-0 vote.

 

Darrell Pistone:  Is a resident of Nyack and has been appointed to the Fire Advisory Board for the term January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001.  He serves as an EMT/Firefighter in a combo department in the Town of Mamaroneck.  He works together with paid, volunteer and union representatives.  He would like to see the Board address the issues of paid and volunteer firefighters, Mutual Aid System and hazardous waste.

 

On the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Stewart-Cousins, the appointment was approved by a 7-0 vote.

 

 

On the motion of Legislator Spreckman, seconded by Legislator Young, the minutes of March 19, 2001, were approved by a 7-0 vote.

 

 

The meeting was adjourned at 4:55 p.m. on the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Spreckman.
