COMMITTEE ON COUNTY OFFICERS & DEPARTMENTS

MONDAY, MARCH 19, 2001

4:00 P.M.

 

PRESENT:           Chair:  LaMotte.  Members:  Oros, Pinto, Spreckman, Stewart-Cousins, and Swanson.  Staff:  Schecter.

 

ALSO PRESENT:  Bill Randolph.

 

APPOINTMENTS

FIRE ADVISORY BOARD:

George C. Tockstein:  Is a resident of South Salem and has been appointed to the Fire Advisory Board for the term January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001.  He has signed the oath of office and has been a volunteer, serving in every office.  He has attended numerous courses on firematic.  He is presently employed as a senior asset supervisor with Wien and Malkin in New York City.  He became involved with the fire department after coming off active duty with the marines.  He wanted something to devote his time to.  He has been to the new fire training center and was very impressed with CAD.  His fire department answered 230 calls last year.  He has not served on the Fire Advisory Board before.

 

On the motion of Legislator LaMotte and seconded by Legislator Pinto, the appointment was approved by a 6-0 vote.

 

 

WOMEN’S ADVISORY BOARD

Freda Macon:  Is a resident of Yonkers and a mother and grandmother.  She has been appointed to represent District 14 as a member of the Women’s Advisory Board.  She has attended meetings of the Board and was very impressed.  She presently works for CLUSTER, which receives their funding from TANF and also $20,000 from Invest in Kids.  She is going to start City College attending full time to work on a Masters’ and Doctorate in Psychology.  Legislator Stewart-Cousins said Ms. Macon is a dedicated person to whatever she puts her mind.

 

On the motion of Legislator Stewart-Cousins and seconded by Legislator Spreckman, the appointment was approved by a 6-0 vote.

Joseph Whelan appeared before the Board to talk about the Rent Guidelines Board.  He presented a letter that he had sent to George Latimer in October of last year stressing the importance of filling the vacant positions.  He feels that $100 honorarium is not sufficient. 

 

 

On the motion of Legislator Pinto and seconded by Legislator Swanson, the minutes of February 26 were approved by a 6-0 vote.

 

On the motion of Legislator Pinto and seconded by Legislator Oros, the March 12 minutes were approved by a 6-0 vote.

 

 

The meeting was adjourned at 4:55 p.m. by motion of Legislator Pinto and seconded by Legislator Spreckman.
