YOUTH BOARD APPOINTMENT

Deborah Potter-Hogg:  A resident of Hartsdale, has been appointed to fill in the vacancy of Ivory G. Green, Jr. who resigned from the Board, with a term to expire on December 31, 2000.  She is a student teacher at Pace University, with a Master’s Degree in International Business Marketing, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and a mother of two children.  Her main interest involves child education and she would like to explore the uneven balance of demographics in the County.  She currently attends a weekly student teaching seminar that prevents her from attending any Board meetings, but by mid-May, the seminars will end.

Dr. Anne Spindel (also a member of the Youth Board) is Ms. Potter's mentor and friend, who encouraged Mrs. Potter to forward her resume to the County Executive.  Mr. Young asked about her position with the Philip Morris Company.  Ms. Potter said she worked as a market researcher for the company, but when her first son was born, she had concerns with marketing and promoting tobacco, so she decided to teach instead of pursuing her career in research marketing.

On the motion of Legislator Latimer, seconded by Legislator Young, Mrs. Potter-Hogg was approved to serve on the Youth Board by a vote of 6-0.

While waiting for the next candidate for the Millennium Commission, the members discussed an overall blanket approval for all those appointed to the Millennium Commission except for the two Co-Chairs.  Mr. Pinto recommended a blanket approval will benefit all members due to the one time appointment to the Commission.  Mrs. Swanson agreed.

Mr. Latimer suggested COD members interview the two Co-Chairs, Mr. Dennis Mehiel and Ms. Barbara Dunkel, together to discuss policy, agenda and responsibilities of the Commission.  On the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Young, all Millennium Commission appointees were approved for appointment providing the County Clerk took their oath of office.  All in favor, none opposed, motion carried 6-0.

On the motion of Legislator Swanson, seconded by Legislator Pinto, the Committee Blueprint will be revised to reflect the mission of the new committee for the new Legislative session beginning January, 2000 through December, 2001.  All in favor, motion carried, 6-0.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m., on the motion of Legislator Swanson, seconded by Legislator Pinto.
