COMMITTEE ON COUNTY OFFICERS AND DEPARTMENTS MINUTES OCTOBER 19, 1998

The meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m. Legislator Pinto made a motion to approve the minutes of October 14, 1998 and was seconded by Legislator Spreckman. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0. Legislator Pinto made a motion to receive and file a copy of a letter from Legislator Noto to the County Executive requesting that before any actions are taken to dismantle the Department of General Services, a copy of the proposal be forwarded to the Board of Legislators for its review, and was seconded by Legislator Oros. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0. Youth Board - Mark Santoro: Mark Santoro has attended two meetings. He is a guidance Counselor at Port Chester High School. He has been there for twenty-seven (27) years, he started as a social studies teacher, and continued as such for fourteen (14) years, serving as Department Chairperson for the last three, before moving into the guidance office. Mr. Santoro has been a Guidance counselor for thirteen (13) years. In 1989 Mr. Santoro became the Chair of the Port Chester Youth Board, he still holds that position. His volunteer work has varied over the twenty-seven (27) years from the Youth Board work to Varsity and COMMITTEE ON COUNTY OFFICERS AND DEPARTMENTS MINUTES OCTOBER 19, 1998 PAGE 2 Junior Varsity assistant Coach and Head Coach, Varsity Track Coach, High School Crisis Team, Project Success, which addresses "At Risk Students" in high school. Legislator Pinto made a motion to approve the Resolution confirming the appointment of Mark Santora as a member of the Youth Board, and was seconded by Legislator Stewart-Cousins. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0. Youth Board Amma Boakye: Amma Boakye is a student representative that lives in Mt. Vernon. Ms. Boakye is a senior in high school with many awards and achievements including National Junior Honor Society member, Whos Who Among High School Students 96/97, United Youth Congress Delegate 96, People to People Student Ambassador Program (candidate), Task Force for Youth Empowerment, Sabbath School Kindergarten Teacher Mt. Vernon SDAC. Ms. Boakye is Red Cross and HIV trained, most of her community service deals with HIV and Aids. She works with families with problems as well as youths. Ms. Boakey wants to become a lawyer in the future. Ms. Boakye has attended three (3) Youth Board meetings and feels it is an interesting process. Legislator Young made a motion to approve the Resolution confirming the appointment of Amma Boakye as a member of the Youth Board and was seconded by Legislator Swanson. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0. Chair Swanson made a motion to recess at 4:38 p.m., until the next interviewee arrived, and was seconded by Legislator Oros. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0. On motion of Legislator Stewart-Cousins, the meeting was called to order at 4:43 p.m., and was seconded by Legislator Oros. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0. Ms. Patricks extra curricular activities/memberships include being Class President for the past four (4) years, Student Government, Youth Leadership, Harvard Model Congress, National Honor Society, Project Discovery, Math Club, Language Club, interact Club, Key Club, Junior Achievement, Girls Varsity basketball Manager/Statistician, After-School Homework Program Tutor, Alexander Hamilton High School Chorus, Parent Teacher Student Association, School Building Committee as well as being Secretary, Treasurer, President and Vice President of the Greenburgh Youth Empowerment (YEP). Ms. Patrick wants to become a Pediatrician in the future. Legislator Swanson made a motion to approve the Resolution confirming the appointment of Rolanda Patrick as a member of the Youth Board and was seconded by Legislator Stewart-Cousins. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0. Chair Swanson made a motion to recess at 4:50 p.m. until the next interviewee arrived and was seconded by Legislator Stewart-Cousins. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0. Chair Swanson made a motion to reconvene at 5:05 p.m. and was seconded by Legislator Young. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0. Chair Swanson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:05 p.m. and was seconded by Legislator Oros. The motion was carried by a vote of 6-0.
