MINUTES

SEPTEMBER 15, 1997

 

 

LEGISLATORS: DELFINO, YOUNG

Chairman Delfino called the meeting to order at 9:16 a.m.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

Fire Advisory Board:

Commissioner Fran Grosso: Commissioner Grosso has been Fire Commissioner for seven years. He is very active with the fire association and fire districts. He is very interested in the County, he lives here and has made a commitment to Westchester all his life. Chairman Delfino asked what he felt the major issues are. Commissioner Grosso responded, that the biggest thing we have is cooperation, cooperation with the rest of the community and the services that the community provides. We provide a unique service with the volunteers. As far as his part, as the Commissioner, keeping spending down is important. Chairman Delfino stated that he has known Commissioner Grosso for a long time, he knows his dedication to the fire department, and is elated that he is on this Board. Legislator Young interjected that Commissioner Grosso’s qualifications and experience speaks for themselves. Commissioner Grosso stated that the people he has met on the Board cooperate and want to get things done, and try to keep up with the changing County.

 

On motion of Chairman Delfino, seconded by Legislator Young, the motion to approve the Resolution confirming the appointment of Commissioner Fran Grosso to the Fire Advisory Board was carried by a vote of 2-0.

 

Citizens Consumer Advisory Board:

John Sarcone: Mr. Sarcone was asked by Senator Spano if he would be interested in serving on this Board. Chairman Delfino stated

that this Board does not seem to have too many meetings. There are a lot of consumer affairs issues, he believes there should be more participation. He went on to say that he thinks that the fact that Mr. Sarcone is an attorney, will be an asset to the Board. Chairman Delfino asked what Mr. Sarcone can contribute to the Board. Mr. Sarcone stated that as an attorney he would contribute his legal knowledge, thoughts and opinions about the law. As an individual resident he is very active with the seniors in his community. He also has a good sense of balance of fairness with business and to seniors. He has served on other committees and boards, he could contribute ideas and stimulate interest in projects.

 

On motion of Legislator Young, seconded by Chairman Delfino, the motion to approve the Resolution confirming the appointment of John Sarcone as a member of the Citizens Consumer Advisory Board was carried by a vote of 2-0.

 

Youth Board:

Kathleen Peters-Durrigan: The Director of the Youth Board is who made her aware of this position. Chairman Delfino asked what Mrs. Peters-Durrigan could contribute to the Youth Board. Mrs. Peters-Durrigan responded that with her experience as executive director of a not for profit agency a few years ago, and her current experience with Southern Westchester BOCES that she will be able to bring forth a system of planning and direction of the activities of the Youth Board and to represent her home community of Peekskill. She was the first Chair of the Youth Board in Peekskill, and was instrumental in the working with the City Council to institute the Youth Board. She has real strong feelings about the importance of the Youth Board in the function of the Youth Bureau. Chairman Delfino stated that it is people like Mrs. Peters-Durrigan who help contribute to the future of our Youths. Mrs. Peters-Durrigan went on to say that is a real labor of love for her and an honor.

On motion of Legislator Young, seconded by Chairman Delfino, the motion to approve the Resolution confirming the appointment of Kathleen Peters-Durrigan as a member of the Youth Board was carried by a vote of 2-0.

 

Laboratories and Research Board of Managers:

Myron Melamed, M.D.: Chairman Delfino stated that this Board is very conscious of the needs for laboratories. He went on to ask Dr. Melamed if he will be working with Dr. Hyland. Dr. Melamed stated that he would be, and that the laboratory is relatively new and an outstanding facility. Dr. Melamed stated that he is an anatomical pathologist, however they send their residents over there as part of their training in forensic pathology. Dr. Melamed feels he can contribute because he knows how the department of pathology runs, he knows how the labs run, and he believes he can interpret Dr. Hylands needs and try to order them. He went on to say that he is looking forward to it.

 

On motion of Legislator Young, seconded by Chairman Delfino, the motion to approve the Resolution confirming the appointment of Myron Melamed, M.D. as a member of the Laboratories and Research Board of Managers was carried by a vote of 2-0.

 

Legislator Young motioned to approve the minutes of September 8, 1997, and was seconded by Chairman Delfino. The motion was carried by a vote of 2-0.

 

Legislator Young motioned to adjourn the meeting at 9:46 a.m., and was seconded by Chairman Delfino. The motion was carried by a vote of 2-0.
