COMMITTEE ON MINORITY AFFAIRS
MINUTES
JUNE 27, 2000
STAFF: ETTERE, CHANG
OTHERS: LIDDON NORMAN, BILL RANDOLPH (CE OFFICE)
The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm.
Legislator Bronz made a motion to approve the minutes June 6, 2000 and was seconded by Chair Young. The motion was carried by a vote of 2-0.
Chairman Latimer requested that the Committee on Minority Affairs conduct a review of the Countys public information pamphlets and evaluate whether or not the County is providing the appropriate outreach to Westchester communities that can be best reached in various languages.
William Randolph, C.E. Office, asked all Commissioners and Department heads to forward any multi-lingual information pamphlets made available to the public.
The Committee received a large quantity of leaflets from various departments. Departments such as Public Safety, Law, Budget, Information Technology, Playland, Finance, Acquisition & Contract and Emergency Services do not provide such pamphlets. This is not because there are not willing but because there is simply no demand.
Legislator Bronz asked Mr. Randolph if he would look into whether or not those departments that do not have multi-lingual pamphlets have a translator available if needed.
The Members will look to find an area to keep these pamphlets for reference or use. Chairman Latimer will receive an outline prepared by the Committees secretary indicating the pamphlets received from various County Deparments. (On file)

Chair Young informed Legislator Bronz that Mr. Sherrill requested changes to the short-form contract. It is being reviewed and revised by the Law Department. Mr. Sherrill should be producing a final model or drawing in the very near future so that a final decision can be made by the end of July.
Legislator Bronz requested that this Committee meet jointly with the Housing and Community Affairs Committees to discuss the Port Chester development and housing issue. Mayor Korff has been asked to attend either a July 11th or 18th meeting. Barbara Dodds will confirm.
On motion from Legislator Bronz, the meeting was adjourned at 1:40 p.m.
