PRESENTATION:

Milton Sherrill is an artist based out of Mount Vernon.  He has a strong and impressive resume on work that he has done throughout the United States.  Mr. Sherrill is proposing a sculpture of Martin Luther King, Jr. and to make its home in White Plains.  His proposal has several “sites” along Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, formerly Grove Street.

Chair Young and Mr. Sherrill have had several meetings with the City of White Plains.  The favored “site” seems to be on the corner of Quarropas Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., next to the Slater Center.  It was also agreed that this project be done on County property.  Construction of the monument would take about one (1) year.

Chair Young stated that representatives from Texaco, Inc. and Philip Morris were scheduled to be in attendance but conflicting vacation schedules made it difficult for them to be present.
