Chair Young gave a brief report of the joint meeting held by the Committee on County Officers and Departments, the Committee on Minority Affairs and the Hispanic Advisory Board (HAB) in Tarrytown on February 18, 1999. The HAB expressed a concern over the lack of Spanish speaking individuals working in the various departments of Social Services. Affordable housing was also an issue of concern, in addition to there being a safety issue due to overcrowded occupancy in single family apartments. Chair Young, at the request of the Chairman has asked the Administration to provide a list of services that the County has available for the Spanish speaking community, for the past fourteen (14) months. As of yet we have not received a report. A letter addressing this will be sent to the Administration from the Committee.

At the next meeting scheduled for March 9, 1999 Commissioner Pozzi will be in to give statistics and demographics on who occupies the jail cells.

In April Chair Young would like to have the HAB come in for a follow up meeting to further address their concerns.
