COMMITTEE ON MINORITY ON MINORITY AFFAIRS MINUTES JUNE 2, 1998

The meeting was called to order at 1:09 p.m.
Legislator Bronz motioned to approve the Minutes of May 12, 1998 and was seconded by Chair Young. The motion was carried by a vote of 2-0.
Legislator Bronz motioned to approve the Minutes of April 1, 1998 and was seconded by Chair Young. The motion was carried by a vote of 2-0.
The Committee discussed the possibility of forming a subcommittee of public members, to review the performance of the courthouse and our relationship with regard to the Dormitory Authority, in its inclusion of minority and women business people. At the next meeting they will suggest some names for potential members of the subcommittee.
There was a discussion on the Community Reinvestment Program. They want to review the banks that are doing business in Westchester and how they reinvest back into the community, and in particular the banks that the County does business with. They want to take a look at the report, discuss it in Committee, and then they will consider the possibility of forming a subcommittee.
There will be a second joint meeting with the Health Committee to be held at the Greenburgh Neighborhood Health Center. The date for this meeting will be set in the near future.
Chair Young explained that he requested from the Administration, information on the Circumstances by which the County provides COMMITTEE ON MINORITY AFFAIRS MINUTES JUNE 2, 1998 PAGE 2
services, in all forms, to the Countys Spanish speaking residents. He hopes to have a response within a week.
The Committee would like to have Mr. Ed Dowdy, from the office of Affirmative Action come before them, to give an update on the compliance of affirmative action.
Legislator Bronz stated that she would be pulling together in Community Affairs, a subcommittee on affordable housing. She would like representation from each legislative district. The Minority Affairs Committee will have representation on the subcommittee as well.
Legislator Bronz motioned to close the meeting at 1:28 p.m. and was seconded by Chair Young. The motion was carried by a vote of 2-0.
