COMMITTEE ON MINORITY AFFAIRS MINUTES SEPTEMBER 29, 1998
Members: Young, Bronz Staff: Chang, Heredia (BOL) Guest(s): None attended For more detailed information please refer to the tape on file. The meeting commenced at 1:12 PM. Chair Young welcomed Legislator Bronz back. Office of Affirmative Action: There have been some changes in the office of affirmative action. Chair Young noted that Mr. Dowdy was an asset to this committee and that he will be missed. Chair Young also noted that he was instrumental in helping the committee out. Legislator Bronz stated that Mr. Dowdy was a good professional. The committee wished him well. Sub Committee Courthouse Renovation: Chair Young stated that the Budget and Appropriations Committee created this sub-committee and he has been appointed as the Chair of the sub-committee. CRA: Chair Young stated that they had established a target date for Mid September however, Chair Young noted that they would like to push for the 1st of November on this because it is a more realistic deadline. They are waiting for some reports to come in. Sub Committee on Affordable Housing: Legislator Bronz noted that they will try to push for an orientation on education, to understand that affordable housing is a good move. Chair Young noted that he would like to have Mr. Sally come in to discuss this issue. COMMITTEE ON MINORITY AFFAIRS MINUTES SEPTEMBER 29, 1998 PAGE 2 Minority Health: The Committee is still waiting for Legislator Abinanti to move ahead with his meeting in Greenburgh. Legislator Bronz noted that she put on the next agenda, an article regarding AfricanAmerican health issues. County Services for the Spanish Speaking Community: Chair Young noted that they are awaiting a response from the Administration, on Spanish speaking services provided by the County. The Committee agreed to extend Mr. Randloph an invitation to the next meeting. Minutes: Legislator Bronz motioned to approve the Minutes of August 18, 1998 and was seconded by Chair Young. The motion was carried by a vote of 2-0. Legislator Bronz motioned to adjourn the meeting at 1:25 PM and was seconded by Chair Young. The motion was carried by a vote of 2-0. |
