DRAFT MINUTES COMMITTEE ON MINORITY AFFAIRS MARCH 25, 1997 12 NOON
PRESENT: Chairman, Clinton I. Young, Jr. Members: Lois Bronz, Bob Darcy Secretary: Lynne Creighton
The meeting was called to order at 12:05pm by Mr. Young.
The minutes of March 4 were approved on motion of Mr. Darcy, seconded by Mr .Young, carried by a vote of 3-0.
There was a discussion regarding the committees meeting with Mr. Dolan and Mr. Redd from Westchester Affirmative Action regarding women in minority-owned businesses, which took place on March 4.
Mr. Young said that he had been assured by the County Executive and Jamie Hastings that there will be more of a spirit of cooperation on their part and any request for information will come through Mrs. Hastings office.
Mr. Young noted that he had not received the proposed legislation for economic development from County Attorney Marilyn Slaatten. Mr. Young said that in addition to two requests for this proposed legislation, he followed up with two calls to Mrs. Slaatten, who gave two different reasons for the delay.
During their first conversation Mrs. Slaatten said the delay had to do with privatization. During the second conversation Mrs. Slaatten said she had placed the assignment with one of the other attorneys and that Mr. Young would be hearing from him shortly, and that was over a month ago.

Mr. Young opened the floor for discussion and Mr. Darcy said that an inquiry should be made as to why there is such a long delay in getting the information from Mrs. Slaattens office.
Mrs. Bronz suggested that the committee invite Mrs. Slaatten to a meeting to address the problem, and Mr. Young asked Lynne to type a memo to the County Attorney, inviting her to meet with the committee.
Mr. Young said that todays meeting of the Committee on Minority Affairs would be abbreviated, due to a Committee of the Whole meeting, scheduled to begin at 12:30pm.
Mr. Darcy entertained a motion to adjourn the meeting at 12:25pm, seconded by Mrs. Bronz, carried by a vote of 3-0. |
