COMMITTEE ON MINORITY AFFAIRS

MARCH 19, 1996

12 NOON

PRESENT: Chairman: Clinton Young, Member: Bob Darcy

Board Chairman George Oros, Secretary: Lynne Creighton

Cedric Nelson, White Plains Resident

The meeting was called to order at 12:05 P.M. by Mr. Young.

Mr. Young said that the next meeting of the Committee on Minority Affairs will be on April 2 at 12 Noon.

Mr. Young stated his dissatisfaction with the fact that Administration has not released monies allocated for Day Care in the amount of $600,000, and will bring this up again at Budget & Appropriations.

Mr. Young stated that Administration said they were not aware of the issue, when in fact there have been four meetings with Westchester Day Care directors regarding this issue.

Mr. Young further stated that holding up the day care funds means that mothers can’t go to work and have to turn to welfare.

After further discussion on this subject Mr. Young introduced Mr. Nelson, a young entrepreneur, who has a newsstand at the County Airport, and who spoke briefly about how, with the help of Legislator Bronz he was able to get a contract with the County for his concession, and his plans for expansion.

Mr. Young thanked Mr. Nelson for stopping by, asked him to keep the Committe updated on his progress and said that if the Committe could be of assistance to please let him know.

Mr. Darcy made a motion to approve the minutes of March 12, seconded by Mr. Young.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:30 P.M. on motion of Mr. Young and seconded by Mr. Darcy.
