GUESTS: Liz Salvi (Cty. Atty. Office), Ed Tagliafferi, and numerous members of the trash hauling industry. The meeting commenced at 1:30 PM. This meeting, which was held in the chambers, was in the format of a public hearing. The purpose was to hear the concerns of members of the carting industry regarding proposed regulatory legislation. Leg. Stewart-Cousins opened the meeting and explained to the audience that, although procedurally, the actual Public Hearing will take place on May 10, 1999, information from this discussion would be thoroughly considered. Next Leg. Abinanti gave an overview of the legislation, noting that the Trash Haulers sub-committee had studied the issue for the last two years and the resulting legislation was designed to: 1) Encourage competition 2) Enhance customer rights 3) Establish a solid waste commission available to the public for complaints or concerns. The legislation also had the benefit of numerous sub-committee hearings and as well as input from the County Attorneys office also took place. The meeting concluded with members of the audience encouraged by Leg. Stewart-Cousins to submit concerns regarding the legislation to any of the legislators or to submit them in writing. Leg.
