COMMITTEE ON LEGISLATION MINUTES, March 8, 1999 DRAFT MEMBERS: Andrea Stewart-Cousins (Chair), Lou Mosiello, Bill Ryan, Jim Maisano, Lois Bronz, George Latimer, George Oros, Tom Abinanti, George Latimer. Office), Anne Nelson (LWV-W), William Donohue (Catholic League), Bob Graziano (Hudso Valley for Law), Ann Schaffer (American Jewish Comm.), Donal Landis (American Jewish Committee), William Randolph (C.E.s office), Larry Dwyer (Westchester County Association), Robin Douglas (African-American Chamber of Commerce), Jo Brill (LWVW). The meeting commenced at 1:50 PM. The item for discussion was the proposed Human Rights Commission. County Attorney, Alan Scheinkman, was invited to discuss changes to the legislation designed to reflect concerns expressed at the February 22nd Public Hearing. A second hearing is scheduled for this evening. Next, Dr. Donohue, President of the Catholic League, was invited to discuss his organizations concerns. After hearing changes and clarification in the language, Dr. Donohue agreed that the leagues concerns had been sufficiently addressed. Finally, as requested by Leg. Maisano, and in response to Leg. Stewart-Cousins outreach, members of the business community came forward to discuss their opinions on the legislation. Those who testified were Larry Dwyer, of the Westchester County Association, Robin Douglas of the African-American Chamber of Commerce, and Donald Landis who spoke as a real estate attorney. It was noted that Harold Voght of the Westchester County Chamber of Commerce and Gill Mercurio, President of Westchester County Realtors, called and said they were not ready to come before this Committee.
