COMMITTEE ON LEGISLATION

Tuesday, August 12, 1997

Chair Abinanti called the meeting to order at 10:50 a.m.

On motion of Mr. Albanese, and seconded by Mr. Noto, the minutes of August 5, 1997 were approved and carried by a vote of 4-0. (Mr. Delfino and Mr. Latimer - out for the vote.)

Next, the Committee discussed proposed legislation for a one-week trial moratorium on sales tax for clothing items under $100. The trial period would begin September 1 and end September 7, 1997. The legislation was signed out unanimously by a vote of 6-0.

 

Next, the Committee discussed the proposal for County electrician licensing. Chair Abinanti had previously suggested that the County Attorney’s office work with Legislator Wishnie and members of the electricians industry to prepare a draft proposal for the Legislation Committee to consider. The Committee heard a brief presentation describing the draft that resulted. The Committee will meet in September to discuss the draft proposal in full detail.

Legislator Latimer asked that the County Attorney’s office provide a synopsis of the proposed licensing law.

 

 

On motion of Mr. Noto, seconded by Mr. Mosiello, the meeting adjourned at 11:25 a.m..
