The meeting commenced at 4:05 PM.

 

The first item for discussion was item B-4 . Leg. Abinanti proposed that the Committee have further talks with Leg. Latimer on this item.

 

The next item for discussion was item C-5 (proposed legislation outlawing the sale of box cutters to minors). Leg. Mosiello who forwarded this legislation discussed how box cutters are sold to minors as key chains which are being used as weapons in schools. Leg. Delfino questioned how do the key chain/box cutters differ from "Swiss Army Knives". Leg. Mosiello argued that in essence they are both dangerous; however, the box cutters are being brought and used at school by minors more than the "Swiss Army Knives".

 

The Committee further discussed whether the appropriate sanction for violation of this law should be a violation or a misdemeanor. The Committee accepted Chairman Abinanti’s suggestion that a violation would best served this legislation. Leg. Noto moved this item, second by Leg. Mosiello,

 

The next item for discussion was Item C-11, a letter from the League of Women Voters re: County Legislative District Lines. Leg. Abinanti asked that we request them to come in and speak on this issue.
