Minutes: Meeting of Monday, July 22, 2002

Teamsters, Paul Ryan – IBEW, Jacques Baron and Greg Chartier – County Chamber

 

1.       Call to Order

 

          Meeting called to order by Chair George Latimer at 4:35 p.m. 

 

2.       Motion made by Legislator Wishnie to accept minutes of

May 20, 2002, Seconded by Legislator Bronz.  All in favor –

Aye

 

3.       Motion made by Legislator Wishnie to accept minutes of

June 24, 2002, seconded by Legislator Bronz.  All in favor –

Aye

 

4.       Chair Latimer reviewed the referrals pending in the committee –

Item # 6 – proposed legislation will be sent to County Attorney for her review, input and possible legislation to be discussed.

 

5.       Apprenticeship Training Statute – Chair Latimer introduced Mr. Edward Doyle who explained that with the enactment of a training statute would guarantee that workers are up to snuff.  Organizations will be able to police their own workers.  It will amend the bidding process – thereby enforcing qualified workers.  It will give workers a guarantee that they will learn the position and be guaranteed a job in the future.  The other union representatives echoed that it would be good for the industry.

 

It was decided that the material would be sent to the County Attorney to implement process to adopt resolution and/or act. 

 

7.       Chair Latimer stated that at the next meeting they will discuss

the permanent memorial for workers who have lost their lives while on the job.  A site that is being looked at is Kensico Dam Plaza.

 

8.       Motion made by Legislator Wishnie to adjourn.  Seconded by

Legislator Latimer.  Meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
