COMMITTEE ON LABOR

MINUTES

JANUARY 24, 2000

MEMBERS:  MOSIELLO, WISHNIE, OROS, RYAN

OTHERS:  ETTERE, DODDS (BOL); BILL RANDOLPH (CE OFFICE)

The meeting was called to order at 11:35 a.m.

Chair Mosiello opened the meeting by suggesting the quorum be set at two (2) since this Committee has only four (4) members in total.  Vice-Chair Wishnie made the motion and was seconded by Legislator Oros.  The motion was carried by a vote of 4-0.

Chair Mosiello shared his thoughts on the Committee’s direction.  He would like to begin by opening dialogue with Labor organizations throughout Westchester County such as CSEA (Local and Regional), Teamsters (West. Co. employees) and AFL-CIO.  Chair Mosiello would like to see the Committee improve the relationships between these groups and the County government.  He also suggested reaching out to organizations that deal with Labor, such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and PERB (Public Employment Relations Board) to understand what they do and how we can work with them.

Legislator Ryan stated that this Committee would likely be doing a great deal of listening to these organizations with an aim to better understand their goals and objectives.

Chair Mosiello informed the members that an appointment has been scheduled with the President of the AFL-CIO Central Labor Body, Mr. Anthony Pagano, for February 7, 2000.  He also stated that he is sending a letter to all the Labor organizations throughout Westchester County informing them that this Committee has been formed and welcoming their thoughts and suggestions.

Legislator Oros made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:41 a.m. and was seconded by Vice-Chair Wishnie.
