Health and Medical Committee MINUTES, July 30, 1996

The meeting commenced at 2:10 PM.
The first item for discussion was Agenda item number 4, a copy of a letter to the County Executive from a Yonkers resident expressing opposition to the parking rates at the Westchester County Medical Center. Leg. Stewart-Cousins received a reply from Administration which she will share with the Committee members at the next meeting. This item will be discussed in the Budget and Appropriations meeting on August 12, 1996. Leg. Stewart-Cousins would like both Committees to have a joint meeting on this day.
The next item for discussion was item number 5, a newspaper article entitled, NEWEST TRIAL THERAPY FOR SEVERE HEAD INJURIES SHUNS COMPLEX REMEDIES FOR SIMPLE ICE WATER. This item will be discussed at the August 20th.
The next item for discussion was item number 7. This item pertains to TRENDS IN MENTAL HEALTH. The Committee plans to discuss this item on September 3rd with Dr. Friedman, the Commissioner of Mental Health.
The next item for discussion was item 11, the Annual Audits of The Westchester County Medical Center and the Ruth Taylor Geriatric and Rehabilitation Institute. This item will also be discussed with Budget and Appropriates at the joint meeting on August 12, 1996.
The next item for discussion was the minutes of July 22, 1996. Leg. Swanson moved to approve, seconded by Leg. Stewart-Cousins [2-0].
The next issue for discussion was the waiver for Dr. Rapoport. Leg. Swanson mentioned that this will be discussed in CODs meeting on Monday, August 5, 1996.

The next issue for discussion was a letter forwarded by Marge Griesmer of the Open Door Family Medical Group (Ossining). In her letter, Ms. Griesmer states that the funds which were pre-approved by the BOL have not been released. Leg. Swanson suggested writing to the County Executive and requesting the status of same. Leg. Swanson also suggested checking the status of all of the Health Centers. Leg. Stewart-Cousins agreed that the Health & Medical Committee could then lobby for all of the Health Centers. Also discussed were the 12 positions of the Health Inspectors which have not yet been restored. Leg. Swanson suggested writing a joint letter with Budget on these two issues
The final item for discussion was RTI. Leg. Stewart-Cousins received a telephone call from Ed Stolzenberg who assured her that the A&C item was nothing more than their opportunity, as they saw it, to get help with the problems that have materialized with cost management.
Leg. Swanson motioned to adjourned, seconded by Leg. Stewart-Cousins. All in favor [2-0]. The meeting adjourned at 2:30 PM. |
