The Committee attended a tour of the childrens unit of the Westchester County Medical Center.
Commissioner Stolzenberg discussed with the Committee the spatial inadequacies of the childrens ICU unit. In addition, he discussed the lack of space for private meeting rooms between parents and doctors, rooms for childrens activities, and storage rooms. Overcrowding of beds is also the result of spatial inadequacies.
The Committee also toured the Epileptic childs unit, the step-down unit and the neo-natal unit. The head of the neo-natal unit discussed the success the hospital has had in this department.
The issue of a new childrens hospital will continue to be addressed by the Committee. A taped copy of this tour is on file.
