The Committee attended a tour of the children’s’ unit of the Westchester County Medical Center.

Commissioner Stolzenberg discussed with the Committee the spatial inadequacies of the children’s’ ICU unit. In addition, he discussed the lack of space for private meeting rooms between parents and doctors, rooms for children’s’ activities, and storage rooms. Overcrowding of beds is also the result of spatial inadequacies.

The Committee also toured the Epileptic child’s unit, the step-down unit and the neo-natal unit. The head of the neo-natal unit discussed the success the hospital has had in this department.

The issue of a new children’s hospital will continue to be addressed by the Committee. A taped copy of this tour is on file.
