COMMITTEE ON HEALTH AND THE MEDICAL CENTER

FEBRUARY 6, 1996

PRESENT: Chairman: Andrea Stewart-Cousins Members: Lois Bronz, Ursula LaMotte Secretary: Lynne Creighton

 

OTHERS: Rosemary Castiglia, Westchester County Medical Center,

Jo Brill, League of Women Voters of Westchester, Sharon

Hernstadt, volunteer, George Hosey, Citizens Budget Advisory Committee

 

The meeting was called to order at 2:10 PM by Mrs. Stewart-Cousins.

 

Mrs. Stewart-Cousins informed the committee of an invitation she received from the Visiting Nurses Service of Westchester, to attend a breakfast on Thursday, 8:30 AM in their office on Mamaroneck Avenue. Commissioner Mary Glass, Department of Social Services will speak on Medicaid cuts and what’s being proposed on a federal level. Chairman Oros was invited, as were representatives from the State Legislature, Commissioner Mark Rapoport and Mae Carpenter and Sally Robinson from the Office of the Aging. Chairman Stewart-Cousins said that although other committee members did not receive an invitation, they were invited to attend.

 

The committee asked Lynne to get the minutes of the last meeting held in 1995, which highlights Commissioner Glass’ presentation on Managed

Care. (Joint meeting with Budget & Appropriations.)

 

The committee would like to schedule the following meetings:

 

1. Commissioner Ed Stolzenberg , to discuss charges for

care and maintenance of inpatients at the medical center.

(Try to set up meeting for (2/20.)

 

2. Tony Giambruno, to discuss county workers laid off

due to privatization and to find out if the county is offering

any assistance. (Try to set up meeting for 2/20.)

3. Commissioner Mary Glass, to discuss Managed Care .

4. Dr. Rapoport, to discuss changes in the Health Department

and Health centers. (Mrs. Bronz would like to invite the

Director of the Greenburgh Health Center to this meeting.,

and Mrs. LaMotte would like the committee to make a site visit

to the Greenburgh Health Center.)

 

5. Meeting with department heads of health centers.

 

Mrs. Bronz asked Lynne to track a letter she wrote to the County Executive

on behalf of two of her constituents who are patients at the Medical Center.

- Health Department and Health Centers

- Governance

Mrs. LaMotte moved to approve the minutes of January 29, seconded by Mrs. Bronz.

 

On motion of Mrs. Bronz and seconded by Mrs. LaMotte the meeting was adjourned at 2:50 PM.
