Health & Medical Committee MINUTES, October 1, 1996
MEMBERS:

The meeting was called to order at 2:12 PM.
The first item for discussion was the minutes of September 10, 1996. Leg. Stewart-Cousins moved to accept the minutes, second by Leg. Bronz. All in favor [4-0].
The next item for discussion was agenda item 1. Leg. Swanson suggested that this item be moved to COD, since the Health and Medical Committee only has one of these items and COD has several. Leg. Swanson moved to transfer, second by Leg. Bronz. All in favor [4-0].
The next items for discussion were agenda items 4 and 12. Item number 4 is a copy of a letter to the County Executive from a Yonkers resident expressing opposition to the parking rates at the Westchester County Medical Center. Item number 12 is letter from Leg. Swansons constituent complaining about parking rates at the Westchester County Medical Center. Leg. Stewart-Cousins asked that a copy of the reply for item number 4 be distributed to the Committee members. Leg. Bronz moved to received and file both items, second by Leg. La Motte. All in favor [4-0].
The next item for discussion was agenda item 5, the head injury item newsletter. Leg. La Motte mentioned that the Commissioner would respond to the Committee. The Committee discussed not only the potential monetary saving of this treatment, but also the lives it may save.
The next issue for discussion was the hospitals Facility Master Plan. Leg. Stewart-Cousins gave an update as to the status of the October 9, 1996 meeting. In addition, she will forward a letter to Jamie Hastings stating the Committees wishes to go forward with the scheduled date. . Health & Medical Committee MINUTES, October 1, 1996 Page - 2 -
The next issue discussed was immunization. Leg. Stewart-Cousins has asked for information from the Health Department. The Committee is awaiting a response from Dr. Adel. Leg. Stewart-Cousins will invite Dr. Adel to attend the Committees October 22, 1996 meeting. In addition to the issue of immunization, the Committee would like to discuss the issue of prostate cancer.
The next item for discussion was the EMSA contract . Leg. Stewart-Cousins asked for a copy of the contract and update and this matter. This information has not been provided to the Committee as of yet. The Committee will send a letter to Commissioner Stancari asking for this information. Leg. Swanson also suggested asking Commissioner Stolzenberg to come in on another date and speak about the status of the $12 million dollars revenue which was lost from EMSA contract.
The next item for discussion was an off-site Health and Medical Committee meeting. Leg. Stewart-Cousins discussed how HMC was the first Committee to take its work off-site. The Committee discussed the next off-site meeting. Leg. Bronz suggested Greenburgh WestHELP, the Mental Health Association has a program on site. Leg. Stewart-Cousins was concerned that this location was in the Greenburgh area again. After some discussion, the Committee decided that the next off-site meeting will be a Mental Health focus with a provider showcase where the Committee will invite the general public as well as all Legislators. Lisa Lombardi is the Director of Mental Health. This meeting is tentatively planned for October 29, 1996 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Greenburgh location.
Leg. Swanson moved to adjourn, second by Leg. La Motte. The meeting adjourned at 3:00 PM.
