TASK FORCE ON FAMILIESMINUTES, JULY 19, 1999
MEMBERS; Paul J. Noto(Co-Chair), Lois Bronz(Co-Chair),Amy Paulin
GUEST: Edmund Rielly
STAFF: Sally Schecter
The meeting was called to order at 12:10p.m. by Legislator Noto.
Legislator Noto gave each member a memo detailing a chronology of significant problems with CSMS access from June 11, 1999 to present. A letter will be sent to Commissioner Kevin Mahon and Ms. Marian LaFranco requesting their presence at the next meeting on Monday, July 26, 1999 at 12:00 p.m.
Legislator Noto stated that one of the issues at the roundtable was identifying the number of petitions filed as sex abuses verses other cases.
Amy Paulin gave an updated report of action taken after the meeting. Representatives from the District Attorneys office, County Attorneys office and DSS met to figure out a way to track cases. The original grant indicated a person that would track each case. The group determined that they would need three computers in three different offices. They would need a person to update and input all the data on a regular basis. Amy Paulin stated that the group would like to work with the members of the task force to accomplish this goal.
Legislator Bronz asked if the grant was funded. Amy Paulin said the grant was written a long time ago and there is no funding source.
Amy Paulin stated that there would be another meeting. She did not know the date but suggested to the group that they inform the task force of the next meeting.
Legislator Bronz moved that the minutes of June 15, 1999 be accepted. She suggested the next roundtable discussion be held at our office.
Legislatior Bronz stated that she received a telephone call from Lynn Nayman, informing her that she had a very bad experience with CPS. It was agreed that Ms. Nayman be invited to the August 3, 1999 meeting to share her experiences with the members.
Amy Paulin said that the County Executive asked the Womens Agenda to give a list of budget ideas. She said she reached out to people (well beyond the Womens Agenda) and compiled a list of ten ideas. Some of the ideas are child abuse, child care, needle exchange program, Co-op citation project, Housing action council, domestic violence in need of a staff aide, neighborhood health centers, etc. (detailed information on tape)
