COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT

DISCUSSION:

Chair called the meeting to order at 3:35 p.m.  The minutes of December 13th, were reviewed and approved on the motion of Legislator LaMotte, seconded by Legislator Kaplowitz, with a vote of 3-0, (Legislator Maisano was out for the vote.)

 

The purpose of today’s meeting is to review and discuss the remaining agenda items from the 2000 calendar year and the new agenda items. The following items were received and filed on the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator LaMotte, with all in favor:  #’s 24, 113, 130, 131, 134, 139, 142, 143, 1-01, and 5-01.

 

Several correspondence items were reviewed next.  Chair received a copy of the FEIS from the NYS Dept. of Transportation and read the cover letter describing the findings regarding Routes 120 &122; and Exits 2 & 3 on I-684 in Westchester County.  The cover letter was forwarded to the Board Agenda – attached materials can be found in the ENV files for reference.  Legislator LaMotte noted that the concept for re-routing would create a much safer environment for that area.  A letter was received from Jim Grefig (PMC), regarding a request for follow-up of the Playland Pesticide application records (from 1997-present).  No information has been received to date.

 

Chair also received a memo (dated 12/18/00) from Commissioner Joyce Lannert (Planning Dept.), regarding the Resource Conservation & Development Council (RC&D) application, requesting that one County

Legislator be appointed to serve on the Council, along with one member to be appointed from the Soil & Water Conservation District.  A memo will be written to Commissioner Lannert requesting a description of the position functions.

 

Chair Kaplowitz introduced a letter (dated 11/00) from Mike Principe regarding the Millennium Pipeline crossing along the Croton Aqueduct, on the motion of Legislator LaMotte, seconded by Legislator Pinto, the Committee went into executive session at 4:00 p.m., to continue this discussion.

 

Legislator LaMotte moved to adjourn executive session at 4:04 p.m., Legislator Pinto seconded, and the meeting continued.  Chair Kaplowitz asked if there was any new business to be discussed, Legislator LaMotte mentioned, she would like to be kept up-to-date with regards to the Ward/Pound Ridge dump area.  Legislator Pinto also added, that Bob Vrana has performed a survey and study on the site – and has found the area to be hazard free.  More completed data from on-going test studies should be available late February or early March.

 

With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
