MINUTES COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT Tuesday, April 6, 1999 3:30 P.M.
PRESENT: Chair: M. Kaplowitz. Members: V. Pinto, U. LaMotte, J. Maisano. STAFF: Steve Bass; Charlotte Ryer, Secy. ALSO PRESENT: Fedora DeLucia (Somers), Katharine McLoughlin (NYLCV).
The meeting was called to order at 3:50 p.m.. The minutes of March 30th, were approved on the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Kaplowitz, with a vote of 3-0. (Legislator Maisano was out for the vote.) Next, the Committee reviewed the schedule of upcoming meetings and the related topics. In regard to the cell tower issue, Legislator Maisano noted that his constituents have raised questions regarding health issues in relation to the cell towers, and suggested that a meeting be scheduled soon to clear these issue and present the facts. Chair Kaplowitz suggested that a two-part meeting be held on May 18th to cover the issue of the Bill itself, and the current science on the health issues. The Committee continued their discussion, with a review of agenda items. The following items were received and filed on the motion of Legislator Maisano, seconded by Legislator Pinto, with a vote of 4-0: items JJ (Local Rifle Range Problems); M-4 (Kensico and West Branch Reservoirs); N-4 (Millennium Pipeline); and Q-4 (Open Space Policy). Legislator LaMotte made a request to add the "Stokes-Greene Property" to the Committee agenda as "Special Item #8", which was referred to the Committees on Budget and Appropriations and Community Affairs and Housing at the Board meeting held January 25, 1999. Legislator Maisano requested that a joint meeting with Community Affairs and possibly the Budget Committee, be scheduled to discuss and get an update from the County Executive in regard to Davids Island. is a little troubled that negotiations are continuing, and no one (including himself) is being informed or given updates regarding the results of these negotiations. Lastly, a sub-committee update was given and a copy of the volunteers-to-date will be provided for each sub-committee Chair (names are still being added to each of the four sub-committee lists.) With no further business to discuss, on the motion of Legislator Maisano, seconded by Legislator Pinto, the meeting adjourned at 4:35 p.m.
