COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Tuesday, March 30, 1999

3:30 P.M.

 

PRESENT: Chair: M. Kaplowitz. Members: V. Pinto , J. Maisano.

STAFF: Rob Hoch; Steve Bass; Charlotte Ryer, Sec’y.

ALSO PRESENT: Gudrun LeLash (FCWC); Carol Coggeshall (Soil & Water Bd.); Dorothy Rinaldo (LWV).

 

The meeting was called to order at 3:40 p.m.. The minutes of March 23rd, were approved on the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Kaplowitz, with a vote of 2-0. (Legislator Maisano was out for the vote.)

Chair announced that our newest staff member Steve Bass (program analyst), has been assigned to this Committee and will replace Rob Hoch who has been assigned to two other committees. In regard to the Open Space Policy, Chair mentioned that copies had been mailed to all municipality officials for their review in order to present the policy and resolution to the full Board on April 26th for a vote. Correspondence was received from Claudia Cook of Columbia Gas regarding the Millennium Pipeline to request a meeting, which will include the Planning Board. Steve was asked to contact Roberta Weirnik (Pest Mgmt. Committee), and Dr. Adel (Dept. of Health), to schedule a meeting sometime in May, to discuss the State-of-the-County in regard to Pesticides.

Chair discussed two new agenda items (S-4, U-4) regarding "Siting of Wireless Telecommunications Equipment". Rob reported that a new Bill is being introduced that is more environmental-friendly with the hope that the Board will vote for the Bill. Chair suggested to have a meeting with these representatives as soon as possible to fully discuss this issue.

Next, was a brief sub-committee update with a recap on the estimated responses and selected sub-committees.
