MINUTES

COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT

MAY 2, 1996 3:00 P.M.

 

 

Present: Chair Carsky, Legs: LaMotte,

Latimer and Delfino

Items Discussed:

 

Chair Carsky called the meeting to order. On motion of Mr. Delfino, seconded by Mrs. LaMotte, the minutes of April 23 were approved as read.

 

There was a discussion on the Burlington County, New Jersey facility. Chair Carsky asked where in New Jersey it is and Leg. Latimer stated that it is in South Central Jersey and is a suburb of Phil.

 

This facility is a model that was funded by the EPA. Leg. Latimer also stated that Rockland County has looked to the Burlington site for ideas. It was suggested that possibly the Health Committee and IGR be included in the tour. The members of the committee all reviewed their calendars and came up with Tuesday, May 21. Leg. Latimer stated that he would he would contact Mr. Mann and see if a presentation and tour of the site could be set up for that date.

 

Chair Carsky stated that we must get small quantity generators out of the waste stream and all members agreed.

 

There was a lengthy discussion on Patterns. Chair Carsky suggested 4 meetings - on every Tuesday night in June. The suggested agenda is:

 

June 4 - Bronx River Valley - Scarsdale Library

June 11-Hudson Valley Region - Tarrytown

June 18 - Sound Shore - Mamaroneck

June 24 - Mount Kisco Public Library

The meetings will begin at 7:30 P.M. All speakers will be limited in time.

 

The Committee discussed the Pest Management Committee. Mrs. Wiernik stated that Dr. Hansen will be sending his resume to us this week. Leg. Lamotte also stated that she spoke with Bobby Nielson, a Turf Management specialists.

 

Chair Carsky stated that she would speak with Comm. Oliva regarding Item 4 on our agenda on efforts to preserve the historic Bronx River Parkway.

 

Chair Carsky stated that she had a resolution drafted regarding Item 9 on our agenda in regards to water filtration. Upon reading the resolution, Leg. LaMotte suggested the committee read the article in today’s New York Times which took care of some of the items mentioned in the resolution.

 

On motion of Leg. Delfino, seconded by Chair Carsky the meeting recessed to the Call of the Chair to sign out the Resolution on water filtration.
