COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT

MARCH 12, 1996 3:00 P.M.

 

PRESENT: Chair Carsky, Legs: LaMotte and Delfino.

Lynn Keating, Mrs. Sandford.

ITEMS DISCUSSED:

 

Chair Carsky called the meeting to order at 3:10 P.M. Laura began by explaining the scoping process. Chair Carsky asked what we need to be alerted to and Laura stated that the final EIS will be released in the Spring.

 

The time frame for the two catch basins was discussed as was space for the three fixed base operators.

 

There was a discussion on the IBM lease. Chair Carsky asked Mrs. Sandford if the Airport Advisory Board had any problems with the IBM lease and she said no.

 

Mr. Russell explained that 27 small aircraft will be relocated due to the IBM Hangar. The Pepsi Hangar displaced six planes, however, 12 planes will get better accommodations then what they had. A trailer will be installed with facilities and a phone and there will now be someone to take the owners to their planes on the tarmac.

 

Hushkits were discussed. Northwest’s DC4’s will comply they have six scheduled flights a day through Westchester and are trying to use the planes that already have the kits installed.

 

Northwest has Stage 3 jets but they are too heavy for Westchester County Airport.

 

The Committee thanked everyone for coming and went on to discuss the Pest Management Committee. Chair Carsky asked Mrs. Wiernik to refresh our memory on the discussion. It was agreed that the Board of Legislators would put out a press release advertising for applicants. Mrs. Weirnik has recommended Nancy Cook from Cooperative Extension and Dr. Hansen from Consumer’s Union. It was also suggested that someone from the Turf Management Trade Industry be included as well as a representative from a garden club.

 

Chair Carsky stated that she will have a press release drafted and sent out.

 

On motion of Mr. Delfino, seconded by Mrs. LaMotte, Hon. Latimer’s referral regarding noise on DC-9’s was received and filed 3-0.

 

On motion of Mr. Delfino, seconded by Mrs. Lamotte, Hon. Tenore’s referral regarding Light General Aviation was received and filed 3-0.

 

On motion of Mrs. LaMotte, seconded by Mr. Delfino, the scoping process was received and filed 3-0.

 

There being no further items for discussion, on motion of Leg. LaMotte, seconded Chair Carsky, the meeting adjourned at 4:00 P.M.
