COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT & HEALTH

Monday, March 18, 2002

3:00 P.M.

 

 

PRESENT:  M. Kaplowitz (Chair);  U. LaMotte;  V. Pinto;  W. Ryan;  S. Swanson;  L. Bronz;  J. Maisano.

 

BOL & STAFF:  T. Bernard;  C. Ryer, Sec’y.

 

ALSO PRESENT:  Jory Celaj (CE’s Intern);  Bill Randolph (CE’s Ofc.);  Christine Hindle Verber (WHAC);  Edna Sussman (FCWC ). 

 

 

DISCUSSION:

 

The meeting was called to order at 3:15 p.m. by Chair Kaplowitz, and the minutes for February 11th and 25th were reviewed.  The minutes of February 11th were approved and moved by Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator LaMotte and carried 7-0, with all in favor.  The minutes of February 25th will be held over until the next meeting.

 

The Committee Blueprint was reviewed next, and with a minor revision was accepted and moved on the motion of Legislator Maisano, seconded by Legislator Pinto and carried 6-0, Legislator Bronz was out for the vote.

 

Legislator Ryan discussed the upcoming public hearing on Indian Point, being held at the County Center on Thursday, March 21st.  He emphasized the meeting will focus on the two proposed resolutions, one with respect to the closure of the facility; and the other for a long-term plan to include an emergency preparedness plan.

 

The following agenda items were received and filed on the motion of Legislator Swanson, seconded by Legislator Pinto and carried 7-0, with all in favor:  #’s 28, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 41, 43, 44, 46 and 47.  Item #’s 38 and 39 will be the topic of discussion for the Indian Point public hearing.
