COMMITTEE ON COMMUNITY AFFAIRS AND HOUSING

APRIL 22, 1996 8:15 P.M.

 

 

 

PRESENT: Chair Bronz, Leg. Stewart-Cousins.

 

ALSO PRESENT: Mrs. Gorski

 

ITEMS DISCUSSED:

 

Due to an administerial error on the Board agenda of April 22, 1996, the Chairman granted a recess and asked the Committee on Community Affairs and Housing to hold an emergency meeting to sign out Items 3J and 3JI: Resolution supporting S2459A and A167 which would establish a fatality review board to access pertinent information and offer solutions to the failures of the system in responding to domestic violence and a resolution supporting S2638A and A2446 requiring the consideration by the Court as to whether there was domestic violence by one parent against the other in determining the best interest of the child when awarding custody, whether the child witnessed the violence and whether or not the parent who exhibited the domestic violence has directly abused the child", which had been referred to both the Committee on Community Affairs and Housing and the Task Force on Families, but had only been signed out by the Task Force on Families.

 

Chair Bronz convened the Committee meeting at 8:15 P.M. and entertained a motion to approve Item 3J.

 

"Resolution supporting S2495A and A167 which would establish a fatality review board to assess pertinent information and offer solutions to the failures of the system in responding to domestic violence."

The motion was made by Leg. Stewart-Cousins, seconded by Chair Bronz, and carried 2-0.

Chair Bronz then entertained a motion to approve Item 3J1.

"Resolution supporting S2638A and A2446 requiring the consideration by the Court as to whether there was domestic violence by one parent against the other in determining the best interest of the child when awarding custody, whether the child witnessed the violence and whether or not the parent who exhibited the domestic has directly abused the child."

 

The motion was made by Leg. Stewart-Cousins, seconded by Chair Bronz, and carried 2-0.

 

On motion of Leg. Stewart-Cousins, seconded by Chair Bronz, the meeting adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
