Ursula LaMotte

Westchester County Board of Legislators

Ursula LaMotte, a Republican, was elected to the Westchester County Board of Legislators in a special election in May 1995 and was re-elected to a full term in November of that year. Legislator LaMotte represents the towns of Bedford, Pound Ridge, Lewisboro, North Salem, half of Somers and the Village of Mt. Kisco. She is Chair of the Special Committee on Families and serves as a member of the Committee on County Officers and Departments, the Committee on Budget and Appropriations, and the Committee on Health and Environment.

Prior to serving as a County Legislator, LaMotte served two terms as a Bedford Town Councilwoman. During that time, she also served as Deputy Town Supervisor.
LaMotte has a long and distinguished record of public service. She has served as President and 1st Vice-President of the United Way of Northern Westchester. A strong supporter of pro-family issues, she has been involved in a variety of organizations benefiting children. LaMotte has served as Chair of the Bedford/Pound Ridge/Lewisboro Drug Abuse Prevention Council and as a member of: the Executive Board of Westchester's Children's Association, the Board of the Children's Aid Society of New York, the Board of Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester, the Board of the Visiting Nurse Association of Hudson Valley, and the President’s Council of the Northern Westchester Hospital.

LaMotte has also distinguished herself as an expert on environmental issues. She has served for seven years as a member of the Westchester County Planning Board and worked extensively on the Patterns Sub Committee, which established long-range-planning policies for Westchester County. She is on the Board of the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation. Her efforts as a Bedford Town Councilwoman led to the passage of landmark groundwater protection legislation, which was the first of its kind for any town in New York State. She also helped found the Pound Ridge Recycling Program and has served on the Pound Ridge Conservation Board.

Legislator LaMotte has been a resident of Westchester County for 39 years. She has lived in Bedford for the past 25 years, and prior to that lived in Pound Ridge for 10 years. She is married, has three children and three grandchildren. She attended Smith College and earned a BA degree in history from Pace University.
